The authors also point to the presence of megakaryocytes in the heart, kidneys, liver and other organs — giant bone marrow cells that are usually not found outside of the bones and lungs.

Researchers hope to find out how these cells affect blood clotting in small vessels with COVID-19. It is noted that the work provided data on seven autopsies, so for more accurate conclusions, research is needed on a larger number of deceased.
